TUMBLER TEST FOR IRON OXIDES: LUMP ORES, SINTER, AND PELLETS :

• This Indian Standard (First Revision) was adopted by the Indian Standards Institution on 15 February 1984, after the draft finalized by the Ores and Raw Materials Section Committee had been approved by the Structural and Metal Division Council.
• Tumbler test provides a measure of the resistance of iron oxides: lump ores, sinter and pellets to breakage or degradation by impact and abrasion.
• This standard was first published in 1972. In this revision, changes have been made in the size range and mass of the sample, so as to bring it in line with international standards.
• In the preparation of this standard assistance has been derived from ISO, DIS/3271-1983 Iron ores- Determination of tumbler strength, prepared by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
• In reporting the result of a test or analysis made in accordance with this standard, if the final valve, observed or calculated, is to be rounded off, it shall be done in accordance with IS : 2-1960.

Scope:
This standard prescribes the method of tumbler test for the determination of resistance of iron oxides: lump ore, sinter and pellets to degradation by impact and abrasion.
